Blackburn Festival of Light 2019

This year’s parade theme is Myths and Legends

Weekly themes are as follows ( though variation is ok!)

16/17 November: King Arthur’s tales – Make a triangle lantern with papercut images depicting scenes from one of the tales of King Arthur and the knights of the round table.

23/24 November: Wild things of the woods- think the Green Man, Pan, Herne the hunter, dryads, fauns and all the creatures from Where the Wild Things Are!

30/Nov/ 1 December: Giants, ogres, trolls and the little people- Make a Giant giant (or a small one)

7/8 December: Dragons and mythical beasts. Create a 3d
lantern in the shape of a dragon or other creature, or decorate a simple triangle lantern with images of your chosen beast
The library workshops will be themed around the tales of Robin Hood and his Merry Men.
Workshop details

Artist/Volunteer Training  8/11/19 – 6-9pm

Would you like to be part of the team helping deliver lantern making workshops? Come along to this training session and find out how! Suitable for adults and older teens only.
 

Big Lantern Build Workshop at The Bureau 09/11/19  2- 6pm and 10/11/19 10am-4pm
These sessions are suitable for age 12+ and are run by our artist Emma Clarke.
Using willow and lantern paper techniques you will be part of a team creating some big lanterns for the parade.
Free to join in, but if you can donate £3 to help cover costs it really helps us.

Lantern Making on Blackburn Market 16th and 23rd November – 11-2pm all ages. Suggested donation £3
Drop in and make a quick and easy lantern to be part of the parade.

Paper and Willow lanterns 
Come along to one of our workshops and work with a professional lantern artist from The Blackburn Festival of Light team to create a beautiful paper and willow lantern for the Blackburn Festival of Light Lantern Parade on Saturday 14th December.

Make an individual lantern to take home after the parade.

 

You will need to finish the lantern in this session so please give yourself a 3 hr timeslot.
Suitable for age 5-95. Not compulsory to come with a child!! This is a messy gluey activity, so please wear suitable clothing. Lanterns will be stored at The Bureau until the parade, so no need to transport a wet lantern home . Children must be accompanied by an adult.  Suggested donation £3
